Argentina won the Copa America 2024 Group Stage Group A match against Chile on Saturday 29 June 2024 at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida. Defending champion Argentinian tops the group with full 9 points after winning its first two matches and has already booked a spot in the quarterfinals. The hero was Inter forward Lautaro Martínez featuring in the starting line-up for the first time in the competition and scoring 2 goals. Lautaro scored for a third straight match.

The Inter Milan striker finished off a flowing move in the 47th minute, coolly chipping the ball over Peru keeper Pedro Gallese, and repeated the trick in the 86th minute, chipping Gallese again for his second goal after some sloppy defending by Peru.

Peru is bottom of the table with just a point after drawing its opening match against Chile and then losing against Canada. Peru is eliminated leaving the Copa America group stage for the first time since 1995.

Paolo Guerrero, the three-time Copa America Golden Boot winner and Peru’s all-time leading scorer (39 goals) needs just one more strike to equal the late Teodoro Fernandez for the most goals by a Peruvian player in Copa America history.
