Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Napoli, 2nd position with 56 points and a positive goal difference of +22
Como, 13th position with 25 points and a negative goal difference of -10

Como won the Serie A Week 26 match on Sunday, February 23, 2025, at the Giuseppe Sinigaglia Stadium in Como, Italy.  What a significant setback for Napoli! Meanwhile, Como celebrates a remarkable victory. Napoli has suffered a double blow, losing their top spot and dropping to second place with 56 points. Inter now stands alone at the top with 57 points.

In short, David has triumphed over Goliath. Against all expectations, Como has secured this important win. Diao’s goal, set up by Nico Paz in the 77th minute, proved to be the game-winner. Earlier, the Azzurri missed a golden opportunity with McTominay, who was brilliantly denied by Butez, and another chance involving Politano and Anguissa. However, the Larian team was more effective and capitalized on their moment, achieving a stunning victory.

Assane Diao has reached a remarkable milestone as the youngest player to tally more than five goals, scoring five for Como and one for Real Betis. He was born in September 2005.

Did you know? Cesc Fàbregas played under Antonio Conte at Chelsea for two seasons, from 2016/17 to 2017/18. He appeared 86 times and scored 10 goals in all competitions. Notably, he was the highest-scoring midfielder for the Blues in both league and cup games during those two years.

Let’s roll the ball…

In the 7th minute, Como took the lead with an own goal. Amir Rrahmani accidentally turned Politano’s throw-in into his own net, not realizing that goalkeeper Meret was out of position, allowing the ball to roll in.

Napoli leveled the score at 1-1 in the 17th minute. Giacomo Raspadori found the net with a right-footed shot aimed at the center. Kempf was caught off guard by Da Cunha’s back pass, allowing Raspadori to seize the opportunity, steal the ball, and score with a low shot to the right past Butez.

Como regained the advantage in the 77th minute when Assane Diao found the net with a precise right-footed shot into the bottom left corner. Nico Paz provided the assist, having spotted Diao making a run from his position in the attacking midfield. Diao executed a perfect stop before unleashing a low shot that Meret couldn’t stop.

✅    Stats before the game:

Como has managed to secure just one victory (2-1 at home, thanks to a double from Renato Cattaneo on November 23, 1952) out of their 23 Serie A encounters with Napoli, recording four draws and suffering 18 losses. They have also kept only one clean sheet in this matchup, which was a 0-0 draw on November 8, 1987.

Napoli is currently on a streak of three consecutive draws in Serie A, facing Roma, Udinese, and Lazio. They haven’t experienced four straight draws in the league for over a decade, with the last occurrence happening between February and March 2013, when they had a series of four draws, including two against Udinese and Lazio.

Napoli has struggled to find a win in their last three matches (D3). The last team to go several matchdays in a row as league leaders without a win in Serie A was Juventus during the final five rounds of the 2018/19 season, where they drew three and lost two, although they were already confirmed champions.

Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Fiorentina, 6th position with 42 points and a positive goal difference of +16
Como, 16th position with 22 points and a negative goal difference of -12

Incredible! Como pulled off a surprise by defeating Fiorentina 2-0 in the Serie A Week 25 match at the Artemio Franchi Stadium in Florence, Italy. This away victory is a significant achievement for Como, especially with goals from Diao and Nico Paz. Fiorentina faced a tough loss at home, marking their second consecutive defeat in the league. With this win, Como has moved further away from the relegation zone, now sitting five points clear of the third-last position. They had only managed to secure one victory in 2025 prior to this match.

Meanwhile, Fiorentina has seen a dip in form with these back-to-back losses. They were close to reaching the 4th place, which is crucial for Champions League qualification, but could find themselves four points behind Juventus if they lose to Inter this evening.

Kudos to Como for their impressive performance! After a rocky start, they managed to hold their ground against Fiorentina, who had three scoring chances in the first 15 minutes and dominated possession. Despite lacking a true striker, Fabregas’ squad effectively brought multiple players into the attacking zone, while Fiorentina struggled to regain control. The absence of Moise Kean was notably felt, as he not only scores but also adds depth and support to the team’s play—something Beltran and Zaniolo were unable to replicate.

Como took the initiative in the 41st minute when Assane Diao scored with a right-footed shot into the bottom left corner, assisted by Maxence Caqueret. Following a free kick from Fiorentina, Como quickly countered, with Caqueret sending a long ball to Dia, who outpaced both Ranieri and Cataldi before finding the back of the net past de Gea.

Things are looking chaotic for Fiorentina as they fall behind 0-2! Como has added another goal in the 66th minute, with Nico Paz executing a brilliant left-footed shot that finds the top left corner, courtesy of an assist from Lucas da Cunha. Nico Paz continues to impress with another spectacular goal, taking it on his left foot and unleashing a shot that de Gea is unable to stop.

Stats before the game:

Fiorentina has achieved victory in their last four encounters against Como without allowing a single goal, spanning various competitions such as Serie B in 2003/04, Coppa Italia in August 2004, and Serie A last November.

Como is set to face Fiorentina in a Serie A away match for the first time since suffering a 3-1 loss on May 7, 1989. Historically, Como has managed to win only three out of their 12 away matches against Fiorentina in this league, with two draws and seven losses, the last win dating back to 1987.

Fiorentina has accumulated over 40 points in their first 24 Serie A games (42) for just the third time in the last 16 seasons, following their performances in 2013/14 (44 points, finishing 4th) and 2015/16 (46 points, finishing 5th).

Como has faced challenges recently, losing four of their last five league matches (with one win), including their last three in a row. The last time Como experienced a longer losing streak in Serie A was in November 2002, when they lost five games under coach Eugenio Fascetti.

Fiorentina have won seven of their last 10 home games in this championship (D1 L2) and overall only Napoli (28) and Inter (27) have obtained more points at home in the current Serie A than the Viola (24, equal with Lazio).

✅   What’s happening in Round 24?

The battle for the Scudetto is heating up, with Napoli and Inter in a tight race!

Inter secured a 2-1 victory over Fiorentina, closing the gap to just 1 point behind Napoli, who has 54 points. The scoring kicked off in the 28th minute when Marin Pongracic accidentally put one in his own net from a corner. Rolando Mandragora brought Fiorentina level with a penalty in the 44th minute, but Marko Arnautovic sealed the win for Inter with a header in the 52nd minute, assisted by Carlos Augusto. Looking ahead, Inter will take on Juventus away, while Fiorentina will host Como.

What a letdown for Napoli!  Their goal was to secure a victory against Udinese at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium. However, Udinese put up a valiant effort and managed to hold Napoli to a 1-1 draw. Napoli now sits at 55 points, closely followed by Inter with 51 points, who will face Fiorentina on Monday. Udinese has reached 30 points. This was certainly a missed chance for Conte’s squad, as they couldn’t extend their lead at the top of the table. The Friulians showcased their determination, coming to Maradona ready to compete and earn points.

AC Milan secured a victory against Empoli at the Carlo Castellani Stadium. This loss is particularly hard for Empoli as they inch closer to the relegation zone. For Milan, this marks their second consecutive win across both the Coppa Italia and Serie A, allowing them to rise to seventh place, temporarily surpassing Bologna, who will be facing Lecce tomorrow. They are now just five points behind fourth-placed Juventus, with a game in hand, while keeping an eye on Lazio and Fiorentina, who could potentially move ahead of Juventus in the standings.  A noteworthy highlight: Santiago Giménez has made history as the first Mexican player to score for AC Milan.

Juventus secured a 2-1 victory over Como, thanks to a standout performance from Kolo Muani, who netted both goals for his team. He started strong with an impressive strike and later sealed the win with a penalty. Como put up a good fight, scoring through Diao, but ultimately faltered after a blunder by Juventus goalkeeper Butez. This narrow win helps Juventus climb the standings. In their next match, Juventus will take on Inter, while Como is set to face Fiorentina.

Lazio crushed  AC Monza with an astonishing 5-1 at the Olimpico di Roma Stadium. Lazio celebrates a home victory, climbing back to fourth place with 45 points. Meanwhile, Monza remains at the bottom of the table with just 13 points. The match saw Lazio take control early, with Marusic. In the second half, Pedro added two more goals, while Castellanos and Dele Bashiru contributed to the final score. Monza managed to score a consolation goal through Sensi’s penalty.  Monza is feeling the heat as they find themselves at the bottom of the standings and need to start winning soon. The threat of relegation to Serie B looms large for them next season.

Atalanta delivered a stunning performance against Verona at the Marc’Antonio Bentegodi Stadium. They dominated the game, winning 5-0 without allowing any goals from their opponents. The standout player was forward Mateo Retegui, who netted an incredible four goals, reinforcing his position as the league’s top scorer with a total of 20 goals. With this victory, Atalanta has increased their lead over Juventus to +7.

Venezia beaten by AS Roma at the Pier Luigi Penzo Stadium. Roma celebrated a 1-0 victory over Venezia, marking their eighth consecutive positive result under Claudio Ranieri. The match was decided by a penalty from Paulo Dybala in the 57th minute. With this win, Roma sits in ninth place in the standings with 34 points, trailing Juventus, who currently holds the fourth spot, by 7 points. The battle for European qualification is still on. Venezia finds itself second to last, 5 points behind Cagliari and Empoli, who are just above the relegation zone.

Cagliari defeated Parma at the Unipol Domus with a 2-1.  The Sardinians are making significant progress in the standings, now sitting at 24 points and pulling away from Parma, who is in the relegation zone with just 20 points.  Cagliari secured a crucial win, highlighted by an own goal from Alessandro Vogliacco and a debut goal from Florinel Coman. Meanwhile, Parma’s struggles persist as they remain winless in 2025, with Giovanni Leoni’s goal not enough to change their fortunes.  Looking ahead, the next matches feature Atalanta facing Cagliari and Parma going up against Roma.

Italian Serie A

Torino and Genoa ended the Serie A Week 24 game with a 1-1 draw on Saturday 8 February 2025 at the Olimpico di Torino Stadium in Turin, Italy. A point each that is good for Torino and Genoa who are increasingly distancing themselves from Lecce, Verona and Como. Their distance in the standings remains unchanged with the Granata always one point more than Vieira’s team. While waiting for the match against Napoli, Torino is now approaching Udinese at +1.

Lecce and Bologna failed to win at the Via del Mare Stadium. The match ended 0-0.  Bologna is currently level with Milan, both sitting at 38 points. Their upcoming match on February 26th will feel like a playoff showdown. Next, Bologna will take on Torino in the Serie A. Meanwhile, Lecce holds steady in 14th place, now tied with Cagliari at 24 points. They nearly scored three times in the first half but were thwarted by Skorupski’s impressive goalkeeping. Bologna had a late opportunity to score during injury time, but Falcone managed to stop Dallinga’s header in the 95th minute. In the next round, Bologna will face Monza, who are at the bottom of the table. Monza
