✅   What’s happening in Round 38?

HERE IS THE SITUATION:

Napoli 2 – 0 Cagliari.  Napoli secure their 4th Scudetto in history, following their victories in the 1986/87, 1989/90, and 2022/23 seasons. Up to now, no team from central-southern Italy has won the tricolor more than three times (Roma has also won three). Napoli just needs to win this game to claim the Scudetto, reaching a total of 82 points. McTominay’s stunning overhead kick in the 42nd minute, along with Romelu Lukaku’s physical prowess in the 51st minute, secured a 2-0 victory over Cagliari, bringing immense joy to the entire nation: the Scudetto.

Buy Serie A tickets

Como 0 – 2 Inter.  Inter defeated Como at the Giuseppe Sinigaglia Stadium.  After Stefan De Vrij scored and unlocked the game, the match became a breeze. The doubling felt almost like a joke: while Joaquín Correa was sealing the deal, in Naples, the former Romelu Lukaku netted the 2-0 that practically secured the Scudetto for Conte and his squad.

Bologna 1 – 3 Genoa. Bologna wraps up its championship with 62 points, securing a spot in the next Europa League due to their Coppa Italia victory. On the other hand, Genoa ends the season in thirteenth place with 43 points.  A flawless first half is sufficient for Genoa to triumph over Bologna. The hosts respond in the second half with their reliable player, Riccardo Orsolini, but it falls short. Lorenzo Venturino’s brace and Vitinha’s goal provide a fantastic finish for Vieira’s squad.

AC Milan 2 – 0 Monza.  Milan beat Monza with goals by Matteo Gabbia and João Félix.  A disappointing season wraps up for AC Milan, who will miss out on European Cups next year. This is the first time since the 2019-2020 season that this has occurred, although back then it was due to their expulsion from the Cups for not adhering to Financial Fair Play regulations. The stakes are high for Milan. Perhaps this will be a season of renewal for them, as they focus solely on the league. Similar to Napoli, who took advantage of this situation to triumph over Inter in the Scudetto race.

Atalanta 2 – 3 Parma.  Atalanta finishes the season in third place, securing a spot in the Champions League. Parma ends up fifth from the bottom with 36 points.  Atalanta were ahead wit  Daniel Maldini scoring a brace in the 32nd and 33rd minute.  Parma manages to turn the game around and saves themselves.  Christian Chivu’s squad enters the second half fiercely and quickly finds a glimmer of hope with the new player Antoine Hainaut (’49), who believes in the play and unleashes an unstoppable shot past Carnesecchi. Both teams create many opportunities, but it is the yellow and blues who equalize, thanks to another newcomer, Ondrejka. The Swede, in the 71st minute, is assisted by Bonny and scores against Carnesecchi. Ondrejka misses a chance to take the lead but in the 91st minute, he nets the goal for 3-2, assisted by Bernabé.

Venezia 2 – 3 Juventus. The Bianconeri had their fate in their own hands, yet they fought hard for qualification until the very end. Captain Manuel Locatelli crucial penalty carries Juventus on his shoulders, leading them to the Champions League.  Venezia, sadly, relegated to Serie B. Locatelli steps up and secures Juventus’ fourth place. It was a fantastic performance from the man who represents this Juve, highlighted by a goal that at least preserves their dignity in a challenging season. He battles, takes on significant responsibility, and then celebrates with his fans.  The match begins poorly for Juventus, with Fila scoring just two minutes in. Unable to respond with their usual play, they rely on individual brilliance, particularly from Yildiz, who levels the score. Then Kolo Muani nets the goal that puts them ahead. In the second half, Juve appears to be in control, but at a crucial moment, they allow Haps to equalize, with the defense caught off guard. All their plans unravel, and a mistake by Nicolussi Caviglia on Conceicao tips the scales.

Empoli 1 – 2 Hellas Verona. Empoli wraps up the season in third-last position with 31 points, trailing Lecce by three points after they defeated Lazio tonight at the Olimpico. Verona climbs to 37 points, leaving Cagliari behind and finishing in 14th place. Hellas secures a victory in Empoli, ensuring their survival while simultaneously relegating their opponents to Serie B. Bradaric breaks the deadlock after the first half ended 1-1, scoring with a close-range header from Tchatchoua’s assist.  Empoli’s drop to Serie B marked a notable moment in the 2024/25 Serie A season. The club, under the leadership of president Fabrizio Corsi, conveyed their disappointment while also showing a strong resolve to rebuild and progress. Unfortunately, the team’s performance in the closing matches of the season fell short of what was needed to maintain their position in Serie A, resulting in their relegation after four straight years in the top division.

Lazio 0 – 1 Lecce.  Lazio only needed a single point to secure their place in Europe, but instead, the home loss to Lecce, combined with Fiorentina’s win in Udine, leaves Baroni’s team without any cup competitions this season. It’s a complete mockery; Coulibaly rescues Giampaolo from Serie B, while the worst-case scenario unfolds for the Biancocelesti in front of a stunned crowd at the Olimpico. The match ends with nothing but boos, despite Lazio playing with eleven against ten for an entire half after Pierotti received a red card (double yellow) during first-half stoppage time. Baroni’s squad gives it their all, launching a full-on assault, with Pedro and Castellanos coming close to scoring multiple times, but Lecce’s defense holds strong, allowing the Salento team to triumph at the Olimpico and secure three crucial points for their survival. For Lazio, the season concludes in the most disappointing manner, especially as they finish the match with ten players after Romagnoli’s red card (for putting his hands on the linesman during a moment of frustration).

Torino 0 – 2 AS Roma. Roma concluded the season on a high note. For their performance, for the points they accumulated, and for their unwavering belief. They came so close, and the disappointed expressions of the players tonight in Turin reflect the remarkable achievement of a team that endured 10 grueling months. Mourinho was let go in January, De Rossi in September, and Juric in November. When Ranieri took over, Roma was deep in a relegation struggle, yet tonight they found themselves competing in the Champions League for an extended period. Although they fell short, today, three years after that unforgettable night in Tirana, there is a hint of hope. They will still participate in the Europa League, as Budapest awaits, eager for retribution.  Roma triumphed in Turin with a score of 2-0, thanks to a penalty from Paredes and a goal from Saelemaekers.

Udinese 2 – 3 Fiorentina.  Fiorentina made a remarkable comeback against Udinese.  Lorenzo Lucca opened the scoring, taking advantage of Udinese being down to 10 players after Bijol received a double yellow card. Fagioli netted the equalizer, and Comuzzo celebrated his first Serie A goal with a stylish backheel, but Kabasele quickly responded with a header. Ultimately, it was Moise Kean who proved to be the game-changer: his goal secured a spot in Europe.

Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Inter, 2nd position with 78 points and a positive goal difference of +42
Como, 10th position with 49 points and a negative goal difference of -1

Inter defeated Como in the Serie A Week 38 game on Friday, May 23, 2025, at the Giuseppe Sinigaglia Stadium in Como, Italy.

Looking ahead, Simone Inzaghi now has a week to get ready for the year’s most significant event: The Champions League Final against PSG. This match could etch his name in the club’s history and could crown a cycle that has been thrilling at times. You really can’t miss this opportunity.

Como has already secured their position in the league, sitting comfortably at 10th place with 49 points. Inter, on the other hand, has experienced a decline, winning just two of their last eight away games in Serie A (D3 L3), despite an impressive run of eight consecutive away wins and seven clean sheets.

A minute of silence to remember Nino Benvenuti.

Inter gained the advantage in the 20th minute. Stefan de Vrij scored with a header into the bottom right corner. Hakan Çalhanoglu provided the assist after a corner was given away by Álex Valle.

The first half ends with bad news.  Unfortunate news for Como. In the 45th minute, Referee Massa is summoned to the VAR due to an incident involving Como’s goalkeeper Pepe Reina and Taremi just outside the box: the goalkeeper, playing his final match, receives a red card.

Inter found the net in the 51st minute. Joaquín Correa netted a right-footed shot into the bottom right corner. The assist came from Mehdi Taremi. Simultaneously, as Lukaku scored to make it 2-0 in Naples, the Nerazzurri extended their advantage with Correa’s goal.

Stats before the game

Inter has triumphed in their last eight Serie A matches against Como, allowing only two goals; the Nerazzurri’s longest winning streak in the league is against Empoli and Genoa, with nine victories each.

The Nerazzurri have recorded nine clean sheets on the road, with only Napoli (10) and Atalanta (11) achieving better results this season, both of whom will be playing their final matches at home.

Following a loss in only two of their initial ten home matches against Inter in Serie A (5 wins, 3 draws), Como has now suffered defeats in their last three encounters, which took place between 1987 and 2002, with two goals conceded in each match.

Como currently holds a secure position in 10th place in the standings with a total of 49 points. Among the newly promoted teams, the last to achieve at least 50 points while finishing in 10th place was Hellas Verona during the 2013/14 season; Monza, in the 2022/23 season, finished 11th with 52 points.

Como have won all of their last three home games in Serie A, and the last newly promoted team to do better was Hellas Verona in 2020 (four home wins in a row between January and June).

Player Stats

During this championship, Nico Paz achieved six goals and contributed eight assists; should he score another goal, he would attain a total of 15 active participations at the age of 20 years and 257 days. The last player to accomplish this feat at a younger age in a Serie A season was Dejan Kulusevski with Parma in 2020, at 20 years and 88 days.

Denzel Dumfries has recorded 11 goals and five assists across all competitions this season; the last defender in Serie A to exceed this tally in a single season was Robin Gosens, who scored 12 goals in 2020/21.
