Hello my friends.  Here is the Serie A ROUNDUP for
the
Serie A Week 22, 2013 – 2014 Season on  Saturday 1, Sunday 2  and Monday 3 February
2014, matchday 22.    Highlights in this round are the 2 derbies!  The
Derby d’Italia Juventus vs Inter on Sunday 2 February and the Derby
della Lanterna Genoa vs Sampdoria moved to Monday 3 February.

Here is the thing.  No matter the result in the Derby d’Italia, Juventus will remain the sole leader of the Serie A.  Juventus
have  a 6-point gap ahead of AS Roma.   It’s just too bad the game Roma – Parma had to be postponed for the heavy rain making it impossible to continue playing at the Olimpico.  Juventus crushing Inter, a total humiliation, total dominion by Juventus.  Definitely, Juventus demonstrating why they are the sole leaders in Serie A and why they are pursuing their 3rd consecutive Scudetto…. strong candidate while Inter had to surrender and bow down……  Inter went down from the 5th to the 6th position.

Great victory for Udinese winning the away game at the Renato Dall’Ara Stadium defeating Bologna.  The morale for Udinese continuing high as they also are in the Coppa Italia Semifinal.
Bologna risking to fall in the relegation zone….. Bologna 0 – 2 Udinese.  The goals by Udinese Captain Antonio Di Natale converting a penalty in the 15th minute  and the goal by Nico Lopez in the 92nd minute.

A disappointment is for AC Milan unable to win the third consecutive win with coach Clarence Seedorf.  Milan failing big time in San Siro going down by a goal to make a comeback in the second half.  It’s a 1 point with a sound of defeat for the Rossoneri, but for Torino it comes with a sound of victory.  The situation for Milan is getting complicated being also eliminated of the Coppa Italia, now risking to be out of European competition next season.

Another blow is for Fiorentina!  Yep, Fiorentina losing 3 precious points on their quest to arrive to the third position.  It is party time for Cagliari defeating Fiorentina at the Sant’Elia Stadium with the penalty converted by forward Mauricio Pinilla in the 39th minute. Cagliari 1 – 0 Fiorentina

Surprise, surprise.  Napoli are falling, Napoli losing points game after game.  A devastated defeat with a firm Atalanta.  Napoli with risk of losing the third position after the humiliation at the Atleti Azzurri d’Italia Stadium.  Atalanta 3 – 0 Napoli  Two goals by the ex Napoli player forward German Denis! If Napoli lose next week, Fiorentina might take over the third position if they win against Atalanta!!!

The 76th Derby della Lanterna seeing Sampdoria winning the Derby in the 24th minute with forward Maxi Lopez scoring the only goal of the match.

As for news this week is the debut of Sassuolo coach Alberto Malesani
who replaced coach Eusebio Di Francesco.   Let’s see how he does……

Serie A PREVIEW Week 22, Italian Serie A PREVIEW 2013 – 2014 for Round 22 on Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 February 2014, matchday 22

Hello my friends.  Here is the Serie A PREVIEW for
the
Serie A Week 22, 2013 – 2014 Season on  Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 February 2014, matchday 22.    Highlights in this round are the 2 derbies!  The Derby d’Italia Juventus vs Inter on Sunday 2 February and the Derby della Lanterna Genoa vs Sampdoria moved to Monday 3 February.

It’s an exciting round because what it seemed few weeks ago that the Scudetto was all for Juventus, now the race is alive.   Yep.  Juventus had an 8-point gap ahead of AS Roma, but now it is shortened to 6 points.  Last week, Juventus failing to win their  13 consecutive
game by getting a draw with Lazio while Roma defeated Hellas Verona to claim the full 3 points.

Surely, the match not to miss is the DERBY d’ITALIA between Juventus – Inter!! Yep.  Imagine the battle and pressure for Juventus not to lose or draw the game.  Juventus cannot allow to lose the game and risk shortening the gap to 3 points with Roma in case of Inter winning the Derby!  It’s the first Derby d’Italia in Serie A for president Erik Thohir……  Conte vs Mazzarri….. who will have the winner lineup?    Point is that Inter also under pressure because a defeat might bring them down from the 5th to the 8th position depending on the result of Torino, Parma, and Hellas Verona!  Bad thing for Juventus having goalkeeper Gigi Buffon suspended for this game.

As for news this week is the debut of Sassuolo coach Alberto Malesani who replaced coach Eusebio Di Francesco.   Good news is for AS Roma, Fiorentina, Udinese and Napoli with motivation after qualifying to the Coppa Italia Semifinal.  We might see a revamp from these teams also battling in top positions in Serie A, especially Roma.

Bologna coach Davide Ballardini is suspended this week. We will see vice coach Carlo Regno to lead the game against Udinese.

Challenge will be for the “relegation group” including Sassuolo, Livorno, and Catania.  Pressure is for Catania in urgent need to start winning or really risk relegation.   Catania in the last position have only 14 points, a gap of 42 points behind Juventus!!!

The Europa League zone. Fiorentina

+17. Inter in the 5th position with 33 points and a positive goal
difference of +14.

points and a negative goal difference of -24.  Livorno in the 19th

Serie A Results Week 21, Italian Serie A ROUNDUP 2013 – 2014 for Round 21 on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 January 2014, matchday 21

By Anna Italia
Follow me in Twitter

Hello my friends.  Here is the Serie A ROUNDUP for
the
Serie A Week 21, 2013 – 2014 Season on  Saturday 25 and Sunday 26
January 2014, matchday 21.

There is a small stop for Juventus failing to win their  13 consecutive game.  Lazio causing the surprise to open the score while Referee Massa gives a red card to Juventus goalkeeper Gigi Buffon in the 24th minute for a foul on Lazio forward Miroslav Klose.  Lazio 1 – 1 JuventusIt’s the second draw for Juventus this season in away games.  Nevertheless, Juventus confirming their dominion as sole leaders of the Serie A with
56 points.

AS Roma keeping the race for the Scudetto alive by defeating Hellas Verona at the Marc’Antonio Bentegodi Stadium.  Roma shortening the gap with Juventus from 8 points to 6 points.

Another blow is for Napoli unable to win the home game against Chievo Verona at the San Paolo Stadium.  Napoli seeing their chances for the Scudetto almost “gone.”  This is the 3rd draw this season at the San Paolo Stadium.  Napoli now risk to lose the third place if continuing with draws or losing…..

An upset is for Inter unable to defeat Catania at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium being Catania the last of the Standing.  Inter fans whistling the players while President Eric Thohir and Massimo Moratti watching the game from the Tribune.   Catania grabbing their first point in an away game this season while Inter not winning a game in 2014.

AC Milan making a comeback to win the match.  Cagliari taking the lead with Marco Sau and Milan taking away the full 3 points after the equalizer goal by Mario Balotelli and the winner goal by forward Giampaolo Pazzini scoring his first goal this season.  Cagliari 1 – 2 AC Milan

A magic moment for Firoentina midfielder Alberto Aquilani scoring 3 goals against Genoa!  The fans saluting him with a loud applause when he was substituted in the 74th minute with Anderson.

Parma scoring only 1 goal by forward Amauri claiming the full 3 points.  It’s a needed victory while Udinese suffering their 4 consecutive loss.  Not a good moment and coach Francesco Guidolin risking being sacked if results continue like this.

Serie A Standing AFTER the game:
Inter, 5th position with 33 points and a positive goal difference of +14
Catania, 20th position with 14 points and a negative goal difference of -24

Pos Team P W D L Goals Diff. Points
5 Inter 21 8 9 4 38:24 14 33
20 Catania 21 3 5 13 13:37 -24 14

Inter failing big time to win this home game against the last team of the Serie A.  Catania battled until the end and despite not winning the game, they got their first point in an away game this season.   It’s a big disappointment for Inter because their quest towards the third position seeming almost gone considering the 8 points gap with Fiorentina having 41 points.  Surely, fans at the Meazza protesting for the result while Inter president Eric Thohir watch the game from the Tribune almost in disbelief.

Point blank is that Inter have not won a game in 2014… yet.  In sum, this draw is more a victory for Catania finally getting 1 point in 2014 in away game.  However, Catania remain in the 20th position.   Inter risking to lose the 5th position next week because there is only 1 point difference with Torino, Hellas Verona, and Parma having 32 points each compared to Inter 33 points.

Here is INTER official starting lineup by coach Walter Mazzarri:

INTER (3-4-1-2): Handanovic;
Campagnaro, Rolando, Juan Jesus; Jonathan,
