✅   What’s happening in Round 28?

We’re gearing up for an exciting Round! The race for the Scudetto is definitely heating up. Inter is currently leading with 61 points, just a notch above Napoli at 60 points, and three points ahead of Atalanta, who sits at 58 points. The stakes are high for Napoli to reclaim the top spot, while Inter aims to widen their lead. Meanwhile, Napoli is facing a tough stretch, having gone five games without a win, still on the hunt for a victory that has slipped away for over a month.

Inter achieved a stunning 3-2 comeback victory against Monza in an exciting match. This win is vital for Inter as they maintain their lead in the standings with 61 points.  Monza started strong, with Birindelli scoring in the 32nd minute and Keita doubling the lead just before halftime. However, Arnautovic’s header in the 46th minute sparked Inter’s comeback. In the second half, Calhanoglu scored the winning goal in the 64th minute, and an own goal by Kyriakopoulos in the 77th minute sealed the match.  On the other hand, Monza is desperate for a victory to boost their chances of survival, sitting at the bottom of the table with just 14 points.

Milan staged an impressive comeback, turning a 0-2 deficit into a thrilling 3-2 victory. Krstović scored twice to bring them back into the game, while Captain America, Christian Pulisic, netted two goals, and Gallo contributed with an own goal. This win not only ends Milan’s three-match losing streak but also boosts them to 44 points. Meanwhile, the Giallorossi stay in 16th place with 25 points.

Cagliari and Genoa are set to clash today in their 50th Serie A match. The historical record reveals 17 wins for Cagliari, 19 for Genoa, and 13 draws between the two teams.

Parma and Torino ended with a draw at the Ennio Tardini Stadium.  Parma and Torino each earned a point, allowing Parma to pull two points ahead of Empoli. Meanwhile, Torino couldn’t narrow the gap with Udinese, who sits in tenth place, four points clear of the Granata and still has a game in hand.

Empoli, fighting hard to avoid relegation, lost against Roma.  The Roman gladiators are still pushing forward in their quest for a spot in the European zone. Currently, they sit in 7th place with 46 points, while Bologna holds the 6th position with 50 points. In their latest match, Roma secured a victory against Empoli, thanks to a goal from Soulé just one minute in. The team maintained control throughout the game, hitting both the post and the crossbar, but they faced a scare at the very end when Konate’s header narrowly missed the target.

Venezia has secured their third consecutive draw, following matches against Lazio and Atalanta. This point is significant for Di Francesco’s squad, as they now sit three points ahead of Empoli with a game in hand. Meanwhile, Como is struggling to close the gap on Genoa, who remain three points ahead. The match between Como and Venezia ended in a 1-1 draw, showcasing plenty of chances, particularly highlighted by the standout performance of MVP Radu. Goalkeepers were the stars of the show at Sinigaglia, with Butez making crucial saves against Duncan in the first half, while Radu kept Como at bay. Ikoné opened the scoring early in the second half and nearly added another, but a late penalty from Gytkjaer, following a foul on Carboni, ensured the teams shared the points.

✅   What’s happening in Round 27?

The battle for the Scudetto is packed with excitement. Napoli and Inter clashed at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium.  Following Atalanta’s draw with Venezia, the standings at the top remain unchanged. Inter stays in first place with 58 points, just one ahead of Napoli at 57 points, and three ahead of Atalanta, who has 55 points. For Inzaghi’s squad, this marks their third consecutive positive result, following wins against Genoa in the league and Lazio in the Italian Cup. On the other hand, Napoli is now on a fifth straight game without a victory, unable to surpass the Nerazzurri and still searching for a win that has eluded them for over a month.

Juventus climbs to fourth place in the standings thanks to the three points taken against Verona. Thuram scores first, assisted by Cambiaso, and Koopmeiners closes the match in the final minutes. It was not an easy match for the Bianconeri, with Verona defending very well and even freezing the Stadium at the end of the first half with a goal by Suslov, later disallowed for offside.

Fiorentina celebrates a much-needed victory after suffering three straight losses reaching 45 points. Meanwhile, Giampaolo’s squad remains stuck at 25 points, sitting in 16th place. Lecce is still struggling to find the back of the net.

Milan has stumbled again, suffering their third consecutive defeat in the league. This may signal the end of their hopes to reach the 4th position. In the dying moments of the match, their plans unravel, and Maignan brings down Isaksen in the penalty area. Following a review, Manganiello points to the spot. Pedro steps up to score, clinching three vital points for his side in the battle for Champions League qualification. It’s a tough break for Milan but well done to Lazio.

In an exciting match, Roma came from behind to defeat Como 2-1, marking their fourth consecutive victory. Da Cunha put Como ahead just before halftime in the 44th minute. The second half saw Saelemaekers level the score in the 61st minute. Como’s situation worsened when Kempf was shown a second yellow card and sent off in the 63rd minute. Dovbyk then scored the crucial goal in the 76th minute, thanks to an assist from Rensch. Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Bologna, 7th with 44 points and a positive goal difference of +8
Cagliari, 16th position with 24 points and a negative goal difference of -14

Bologna won the Serie A Week 27 match on Sunday, March 2, 2025, at the Renato Dall’Ara Stadium in Bologna, Italy. Bologna secured a 2-1 victory over Cagliari, marking their second win in a row and their sixth consecutive triumph at home.

With this win, Bologna has moved ahead of Fiorentina, reaching 47 points in the league standings, now tied with fifth-placed Lazio, who are set to play against Milan tonight at San Siro. Meanwhile, Italiano’s squad is closing in on fourth-place Juventus, who are just two points ahead and will be facing Verona tomorrow. For Cagliari, this marks their second straight defeat and their third match without a win, leaving them with 25 points, just three points clear of the relegation zone.

Notably, in their last seven meetings in the top division, Bologna has triumphed in the first leg four times. Meanwhile, Cagliari has secured three wins in the return matches. Following their 2-0 victory in the first leg on October 29, Bologna aims to achieve a seasonal double over Cagliari for the third time in Serie A history, having previously done so in the 2013/14 and 1965/66 seasons.

Cagliari opened the scoring in the 23rd minute when Roberto Piccoli found the net with a close-range header. The goal was set up by Tommaso Augello, who delivered a perfect cross after a quick counterattack.

Bologna leveled the score in the 48th minute when Riccardo Orsolini successfully converted a penalty with a left-footed shot into the bottom left corner. The penalty was awarded after Mattia Felici committed a foul on Nicolò Cambiaghi in the box.

In the 56th minute, Bologna surged ahead with a 2-1 lead, thanks to a close-range right-footed shot that found the center of the net. Nicolò Cambiaghi provided the assist. Castro played the ball to Cambiaghi, who quickly sped up and delivered a low cross that traveled across the entire penalty area, reaching the home team’s number 7 on the right side. The game turned around in just ten minutes.

Stats before the game

The last 14 encounters between Bologna and Cagliari in Serie A have shown a remarkable balance, with each team claiming five victories and four matches ending in a draw. Specifically, in their last seven top-flight meetings, Bologna has triumphed in the first leg four times, while Cagliari has secured three wins in the return matches. Following their 2-0 victory in the first leg on October 29, Bologna has the chance to achieve a seasonal double over Cagliari for the third time in Serie A history, previously accomplished in the 2013/14 and 1965/66 seasons.

Bologna have remained unbeaten in the last 11 home matches against Cagliari in Serie A (8W, 3D), winning all three of the most recent ones; the last Sardinian success at the Dall’Ara against the Emilians in the tournament dates back to 10 January 2010 (1-0 with a goal by Alessandro Matri, with Massimiliano Allegri as coach).

Since the start of 2025, Bologna have lost just one out of nine games played in Serie A (W4 D4) – only Roma are unbeaten in the period – and have scored 15 goals (like Napoli): less than only Atalanta and Roma (both 16) in this calendar year.

Bologna have won seven of their last nine home games in Serie A (D1 L1), including all of their last four; since the start of November, the rossoblù have been the team with the best home performance in the tournament: 22 points, two more than Inter.
Cagliari have not scored in their last two league games and in Serie A 2024/25 they have only once failed to score in three consecutive matches: between August and September.
