The hero is Youssef En-Nesyri scoring the only goal of the match and enough to secure the victory and the pass to the Semifinals. Sadly, not even the entry of Cristiano Ronaldo helped Portugal find an equalizer, and the party started for Morocco. Coach Regragui wrote history, however it goes. Party is for Morocco, another feat of Regragui’s team that becomes the first African national team ever to reach the semifinals of the World Cup! The 1-0 draw against Portugal once again exalted the defensive phase of Regragui’s formation, capable of resisting even the Portugal forwards with only one great save by Bounou.

This will be Portugal’s third World Cup quarter-final; the Portuguese have qualified in each of the previous two: 5-3 over North Korea in 1966 and 3-1 on penalties against England in 2006. There will be no South American match against Brazil who were beaten by Croatia. Argentina will face Croatia in the semifinals repeating the path of four years ago when they reached the final. Penalties were needed for the Albiceleste to get the better of Van Gaal’s Netherlands after having squandered the double advantage built with Nahuel Molina and Lionel Messi in the final. Weghorst’s brace between the 83rd and 101st minutes took the match into extra time
