Portugal crushed Turkey and won the UEFA EURO 2024 Group Stage Group F Matchday 2 game on Saturday 22 June 2024. The victory gave Portugal the qualification to the Round of 16 as GroupF winners. The three goals scored by Bernardo Silva with his first goal at a major tournament, an own goal from Samet Akaydin and a goal by Bruno Fernandes. Turkey still have chance for qualification if they defeat on Wednesday the Czech Republic, who drew 1-1 with Georgia.

This was the fourth meeting between Türkiye and Portugal at the European Championships. Portugal have won all three previous games without conceding a goal: 1-0 in 1996 (group stage), 2-0 in 2000 (quarter-finals) and 2-0 in 2008 (group stage).

✅ Stats before the game: Considering all competitions, Turkey has won only two of nine matches against Portugal (seven defeats), both in friendly matches: 3-1 in 1955 and 3-1 in 2012. After the success in the opening match of EURO 2024 against Georgia, Turkey could win both the first two matches in a single edition between the European Championships and the World Cup for the first time in its history. Portugal has lost only one of the last nine group stage matches of the European Championships (W4, D4): against Germany in 2021 (2-4), scoring 18 goals in the period (exactly two on average per match). If successful in this match, Turkey would equal its record of victories in a single edition of the European Championships (two in 2008), while only in the 2002 World Cup has it won more than two matches in a major international tournament (4). Portugal made 30 crosses in the first match of this European Championship against the Czech Republic: a record on the first day of EURO 2024, the last time they attempted so many in the group stage of the tournament dates back to 2016 against Austria (36).

Belgium won the UEFA EURO 2024 Group Stage Group E Matchday 2 game on Saturday 22 June 2024 at the Cologne Stadium in Cologne, Germany. It is a very important victory for Belgium . 🏆👉 Portugal win the UEFA EURO 2024 Matchday 1 against Czechia on Tuesday 18 June 2024 at the Leipzig Stadium in Leipzig, Germany. Francisco Conceição came off the bench to grab a stoppage-time winner. It’s a memorable victory because it came on a day when the nation hit two Euro milestones right from kickoff. Forward Cristiano Ronaldo became the first to play in six European Championships and his teammate Pepê, the oldest, at age 41. Portugal joins Turkey at the top of Group F with three points while the Czech Republic remains stuck at zero in the company of Georgia.

The hero tonight is Conceição, 21-year-old, because he scored in the third minute of added time the winner goal. First half controlled by the Portuguese, dangerous on two occasions with Ronaldo, but closed without great results; in the second half the Czechs took the lead through Provod but Hranac’s own goal and Conceicao’s goal in injury time crowned the comeback and handed the first three points to Martinez’s boys.

In the next round scheduled for Saturday, the Czechs will challenge Georgia and the Portuguese against Vincenzo Montella’s Turks.
