“I’m in great shape. I’m doing athletic work with the rest of the team every day. I’m very tired and that’s a good sign.”

“That we don’t lose players mid-campaign because we want to have a great year.”

Will the fans get the chance to see Cuadrado, Gomez and Rossi together?
“That would be great. Juan and Mario are both top players. Unfortunately I haven’t had much chance to play alongside Gomez.”

Can you see yourself as the Fiorentina captain one day?
“The gaffer doesn’t even pick me as captain in training… [said with a grin]”

Is it time you won something in a Viola shirt?
“Definitely. We went very close last year in the Coppa Italia.”

When will we see you in a friendly?
“We’ll see if I play against Kalloni on Saturday. There’s no rush.”

Can Fiorentina get into the Champions League spots?
“We think we’re a side that can aim high.”

How’s your knee?
“I need to do a bit more strength work than the others. That’s all.”

Are Germany the example everyone should look up to now?
“Of course. Their attacking play is so organised.”

Which players were you most impressed by?
“Schweinsteiger impressed me.”

What sort of coach will Inzaghi be?
“We’ll see. He was a great player. I’m sure he’ll know how to manage the group and the times when the pressure starts hotting up.”

Goalkeeper Cristiano Lupatelli suffered a dislocated shoulder in training today, which was reduced immediately. Diagnostic tests revealed that nothing is broken but the player has in any case returned to Florence for further examinations.

Viola midfielder Borja Valero addressed the media from the press room at Moena's Centro Sportivo Benatti today.

“I'm delighted to have extended my contract with Fiorentina for five more years,” he said. “This club has given me so much and I've given it a lot in return. I instructed my agent not to listen to any other offers in recent months as I was waiting for Fiorentina. The Viola – along with Real Madrid –  have given me more than any other club. My family is happy in Florence and that's key for me. Perhaps I'm not your typical player. I lead a simple life off the field and Florence is a relaxed city. It's a dream place to live.”

On Fiorentina's future: “I came here to Moena two years ago, we've grown year on year and I'm sure we'll keep growing over the coming years.”

Would you join the Viola management team in the future? “I'm too young to think about that now.”

Pizarro and Aquilani? “We have to show faith in the club. The management always do what's best for Fiorentina.”

Giuseppe Rossi? “We'll have him fully fit for the start of the season.”

Today, Monday 14 July 2014, ACF Fiorentina presented to the City of Florence a feasibility study for the construction of a new stadium and the setting up of related activities necessary to guarantee the structure’s financial stability, in accordance with the new Italian stadium law (147/2013, article 1, paragraph 304).

The proposed next-generation arena, a 40,000 seater without a running track, will be equipped with facilities on a par with those of other top European clubs and meet the technological and functional standards required by UEFA for international competition.

The connected activities – shops, hotels and tourism – will help to ensure the overall financial stability of the initiative. Together with the congress areas and spaces set aside for sports-related museums, these activities will provide a boost for the local area in social, economic and employment terms.

The feasibility study is based on the area indicated by the City Administration in its territorial planning. The area is necessarily a large one as it must be compatible with the stadium, the construction works required to make it usable and the related infrastructure development, which includes infrastructure that will be of direct benefit to the city. However, ACF Fiorentina wishes to put on record that it is prepared to propose another feasibility study should the City Council identify an alternative area, providing that it allows the aims of the project to be met.

ACF Fiorentina believes that with the project described in the feasibility study the city’s football team will have a modern, functional stadium similar to those used by the biggest European clubs competing in international competitions, while the City of Florence, besides having a stadium built at no public expense, would receive further commercial and tourism resources that could help to extend the average stay of visitors who are attracted to Florence by the city’s artistic and cultural heritage.
