The Italian Referee Association (AIA) has designated Referee Daniele Orsato from the section of Schio to direct the Serie A Week 9 game AS Roma vs AC Milan on Sunday 27 October 2019 at the Olimpico di Roma Stadium in Rome, Italy at 18:00.

Referee Orsato will be assisted by Lorenzo Manganelli from the section of Valdarno and Valentino Fiorito from the section of Salerno. The fourth official will be Piero Giacomelli from the section of Trieste. The VAR will be Massimiliano Irrati from the section of Pistoia and the AVAR will be Dario Cecconi from the section of Empoli.

Montella praises Fiorentina mentality despite Brescia draw

Vincenzo Montella was pleased with the way his side kept pushing for the breakthrough against a well-organised Brescia team on Monday night as the Viola were made to settle for a 0-0 draw at the Stadio Mario Rigamonti.

“We need to keep working but that’s always the case,” said Montella, speaking in his post-match press conference. “We certainly need to improve our finishing if we want to stay near the top of the table, which I gather is looking better now, even if I’ve not seen it. We need to keep working but I was impressed by the team’s mentality tonight, including at the end there. We showed we could wait for the right moment to force the game.

“I think we had more than Brescia, including from a physical perspective: when you have more of the ball your force your opponents to run more. I don’t know whether that was the case but it was the mentality that I was most pleased with: the players stayed in the game right until the end.”
Montella acknowledged that Brescia’s style made it difficult for Fiorentina to reproduce some of the scintillating football we’ve seen from the Viola in recent weeks.
“We were very solid but we lacked some vibrancy, partly due to the fact that Brescia prevent you from playing your game,” he said. “They’re well organised and get numbers around the ball. Every team has found it tough here because they prevent you from playing good football. We found it tough going at the start, up until the disallowed goal – it wasn’t a penalty on [Martin] Caceres either. The referee did very well so credit to him.”
The Viola boss admitted that Fiorentina had the chance to win the game in the final stages at the Rigamonti, calling for a more clinical streak from his side in the future.
“I think we could have been a bit better in terms of our decision-making when we got to the byline, because we’d identified that as a possible weakness,” he said. “We tried to force by bringing on [Riccardo] Sottil, who had a very big impact. If we’d been a bit more clinical, perhaps we would have been able to take better advantage of those situations and maybe win the game. We had the better of it in the last ten to 15 minutes and we could have made that pay.”

Montella: "This run will show us where we are"

Vincenzo Montella acknowledged the importance of Fiorentina’s upcoming run of games – starting with the trip to the Stadio Mario Rigamonti to face Brescia on Monday night – as the Viola coach appeared at his pre-match press conference on Saturday.

“Between the last two international breaks, we became a team,” said Montella. “We picked up points and showed that we have a clear identity. Now we have another cycle of games that will certainly show us how far we can go.”

Montella refused to buy into suggestions that Brescia are an easier test for Fiorentina than some of the Viola’s recent games.
“Brescia have played six games, four of them away from home,” he began. “They’ve got two wins and have a game in hand. They did themselves proud against Juventus and lost due to two set plays and they were in the game until the end against Napoli and AC Milan. They’re a very dangerous side – the third-best side in the league in terms of duels won. They’re the most direct side in the league, despite not having a lot of possession.”
Brescia have had a longer rest than Fiorentina after their game against Sassuolo was called off following the death of Giorgio Squinzi, but Montella was coy on whether that will prove to be an advantage for the hosts on Monday.
“I don’t know – it depends on the result,” he said. “There are pros and cons. We’ve been on the right track in terms of our intensity and our preparation for games, but we knew [the international break] was coming. I don’t think about these things too much. I think Monday will be a very intense game and perhaps the extra rest will come into it.”
Montella also gave an update on the fitness of Federico Chiesa, who picked up an injury while on international duty with Italy.
“Federico is OK – he’s training,” said the boss. “Obviously I’m assessing him. He’s perhaps not at 100%. We’re focusing on recovery today and then tomorrow will give us a bit more clarity.”
There was also a word on Brazilian forward Pedro, who Montella is continuing to ease into life in Florence following the move from South America.
“We’ve been very clear on Pedro but I’ll say it again: we’re managing him to ensure that his fitness grows and to prepare him for the intensity of Italian football, which is a lot higher than the Brazilian league in physical and mental terms,” he said.
