The Red and Black coach speaking to Milan TV: “I want to thank Berlusconi and Galliani. In the derby, we have to play as a team”
Today marks a historic day in AC Milan’s history, and with the derby only two days away, Vincenzo Montella spoke to Milan TV and the rest of the journalists at the regular press conference at Milanello to introduce the match against Inter, Saturday at 12.30 pm at San Siro. These were his words:
THANK YOU SILVIO BERLUSCONI AND ADRIANO GALLIANI
“I have been recently informed the club has been sold, I spoke with both Galliani and Marco Fassone. I want to thank
and Adriano Galliani for having given me the opportunity to train AC Milan. The players and I have made the history of the club, although in a small part, winning the Supercup in Doha, the last trophy won by the President. I am really moved, this is a historic day”.
DERBY “It’s going to be a very tough game, exciting to prepare and to play. Let’s focus on ourselves, knowing it’s going to be a battle. We want to win it: million of fans will be watching the match. If it was down to me to chose the best day to make this historic change, I would have chosen this day. The team trained very well and I am sure they will do the same also on Friday, showing they are 100 percent focused, despite this historic change. It’s going to be a great match”.
INTER “Inter have technical players with great pace and we have to play an aggressive game to prevent them from moving the ball around quickly. How do you stop Icardi? You need to prevent him from receiving the ball, he’s a very strong striker who scores a lot and he’s’ now learning to play more and more for the team. With Gagliardini Inter have found a player that gives them the right tempo, he’s very physical and capable of finding space between the lines. It’s going to be a pretty similar game to the reverse fixture we played in November, a delicate and very technical match. Inter are having a downer? When you play a derby you reset everything“.
CLOSING “What Berlusconi did was another act of love. I am sure the
have the intention and the desire to bring AC Milan back where it belongs. I will hear directly from them what they think about what I have done, for sure we’ll have the chance to discuss about this. I am positive and open to hear their feedback. This passage will help me increase my experience, without any disturbance”.
LINE-UP “I still have to decide the starting XI, there are still two days to go to the derby, in the next hours I’ll know more. I have a starting line-up in mind, but there are several variables to take into consideration. We will face a team with top class players: it’s an important game. We need to play as a team, confident both tactically and technically”.
INDIVIDUALS “With Deulofeu we are strong in the one-on-one, but I don’t think it’s going to be a different match from the one we played in November. Pasalic’s absence? He’s improving a lot and he can improve even more. but I don’t like talking about players who are not available”.
FUTURE “I have always managed to distinguish what happens on the pitch from what happens within the Club, I want to say this on behalf of the people who make up the new management who have been extremely correct. In the next days, we’ll meet the new ownership and I am sure we will find an agreement on future projects, to bring back AC Milan where it deserves and give this club a glorious future”.
SILVIO BERLUSCONI “I always listened to the advice he gave me in the numerous phone calls we had together. Lately, he has been very busy and we haven’t seen a lot of him. I have always held the President in great esteem, I admire him a lot“.
It’s a historical day in Milan, the end of the Berlusconi’s Era and the start of the new Li Yonghong’s Era on Friday 14 April 2017.
As reported by AC Milan official website, Li Yonghong‘s era started at 11 am CEST with the press conference held at Casa Milan. The new President spoke first about his initial emotions and wanted to thank Silvio Berlusconi and the former management who contributed so much to the history of AC Milan.
“Dear and honoured guests, ladies and gentlemen, AC Milan fans. Today we celebrate a very important moment for each and every AC Milan fan. On this day, Rossoneri Sport Investment Lux has completed the purchase of the stake in AC Milan. Today we celebrate the start of a new chapter in the history of this glorious club. The success of this transition was made possible by all the efforts and the passion of all our partners. But above all, I want to show my sincere gratitude to Silvio Berlusconi and Fininvest for the trust they always had in us. Over the past 30 years, AC Milan have won many trophies: 8 Serie A titles, 5 Champions Leagues and 7 Italian Supercups. Considering all the top players who have played in this team and all the victories of the past years, the fans are hoping to see the Club back at the top of European football once again. The future board of directors and the future management will be made up of specialists in finance and business. The management will be stable and efficient. We will support our professionals in carrying out their functions. A few months ago, we linked up with Marco Fassone. Marco has contributed in an exceptional way in outlining the future development of AC Milan. For this reason, we believe he is the best possible manager to become the club’s CEO. I believe in Marco Fassone and I am sure that his team will give AC Milan the opportunity to achieve great results and bring the club back to the top of the world of football. We want our fans throughout the world to continue loving their favourite team, this is our objective. This is what every Red and Black fan should do. Thank you, FORZA MILAN!”.
After the President’s words, it was time for the new CEO, Marco Fassone, to answer the questions of the press. These were his words.
