As reported by the Lega Serie A, the award was assigned by a jury of Directors of sports media who evaluated each coach on the basis of technical and sporting criteria and the quality of play of their teams, as well as their behaviour/fair play during matches.

For the final calculation, all matchdays of Serie A TIM 2021/2022 have been considered.

“Stefano Pioli has been the leader of AC Milan who, after 11 seasons, returned to win the Serie A TIM – said Lega Serie A CEO Luigi De Siervo -. A young and spectacular team, made of technique and enthusiasm, in which the Rossoneri coach was able to make each element grow individually and amalgamate them into a compact group. Pioli’s merits in Milan’s triumph are evident and the Coach Of The Season award is also a recognition of a man symbol of fair play and great passion for this sport”.

As reported by the Lega Serie A, the rankings were drawn up taking into account the advanced analysis of Stats Perform, created from the tracking data recorded with the Hawk-Eye system. The rating system, patented in 2010 with K-Sport and scientifically validated, considers not only statistical data and technical events, but also positional data. This makes it possible to analyse crucial aspects such as movement without the ball and thus optimal movements, game choices, and the contribution to the technical and physical efficiency of the team, which allow for an objective and qualitative evaluation of the performance. For the final calculation were considered all matches played in Serie A.

“Rafael Leao is undoubtedly one of the symbols of AC Milan as Champions of Italy, a striker who is always able to offer a great show” – said Lega Serie A CEO Luigi De Siervo -. “Football exuberance, unpredictability, athletic strength, and technique at speed already make him a Top Player, one of the brightest talents at the international level. In the decisive moments of the season, the Portuguese forward has been fundamental with 11 goals, 10 assists, and top-level plays”
