🏆 👉  AC Milan win the Champions League Group Stage Group E Matchday 2 game against Dinamo Zagreb on Wednesday 14 September 2022 at the San Siro Stadium in Milan, Italy. The Rossoneri dominated the Croatians, surpassing them in the standings, with a comfortable 3-1, thanks to the penalty by Olivier Giroud and the goals by Alexis Saelemaekers and Tommaso Pobega who rounds the result after Orsic’s goal.   Milan reached 4 points while Dinamo remained with 3 points.

Milan and Dinamo Zagreb meet for the fifth time in a European competition: Milan boasts 100% victories in previous matches (4/4).

AC Milan opened the score in the 45th minute before ending the first half. Referee gave a penalty to Milan. It is French forward Olivier Giroud to convert the penalty defeating Dinamo Zagreb goalkeeper with a left-footed shot to the bottom right corner. The penalty is conceded by Josip Sutalo after a foul on Rafael Leão.

The second half started with the right attitude. AC Milan increased the score in the 47th minute. Alexis Saelemaekers scored with a headed shot to the high center. The assist is by Rafael Leão. Way to go for Leão a decisive player.

Mislav Oršić shortened the distance for the 2-1 in the 56th minute. Oršić defeated AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan with a right-footed shot to the bottom right corner. The assist is by Bruno Petkovic.

Things getting better for the Rossoneri. Milan increased the score for the 3-1 in the 77th minute. Tommaso Pobega scored with a left-footed shot to the high center. The assist is by Theo Hernández.

Stats before the game: AC Miland and Dinamo will be the first meeting between the two teams since the 2000/01 season, when AC Milan won both games during a qualifying round for the Champions League (3-1 at home, 3-0 away).  This is the third time that Dinamo Zagreb have been drawn in a Champions League group stage with an Italian team: they lost both games to Juventus in 2016/17 (0-4 at home, 0-2 away) , won one and lost one against Atalanta in 2019/20 (4-0 home win, 0-2 defeat in Bergamo).  After winning their first five games against Croatian sides in European competitions, AC Milan were beaten in their last match in chronological order – 0-2 against HNK Rijeka in the Europa League in December 2017. That defeat, however, came on the road : in fact the Rossoneri team has won all three games against Croatian teams at home.  AC Milan have not won any of their last six Champions League home games (3D, 3L), the longest series ever without a home win in the competition for the Devil. The last victory at the Meazza in the Champions League dates back to September 2013 against Celtic (2-0).

Atalanta wasted the chance to remain in the sole position after their draw against Cremonese stepping down to the 2nd position.  Atalanta had to share 1 point with Cremonese ending with just 2 points and remaining in the relegation zone.

Napoli defeated Spezia at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium.    A precious victory thanks to the late goal in the 89th minute by Giacomo Raspadori.  Spezia remains at 5 points. We might say it is a suffered victory because Spezia put up a strong fold until the end. In the next round, Napoli will play the away game against AC Milan, while Spezia will play an important salvation game against Sampdoria.

AC Milan defeated Sampdoria at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium.  The victory helped AC Milan to continue the race toward the top position while Sampdoria remain in the relegation zone.  Milan played with 10 players since the 47th minute after Rafael Leão was sent off with a red card. At the moment Milan hooks Napoli at the top of the standings. Sampdoria Coach Marco Giampaolo also got a red card in the 97th minute for protesting.  In the next round, Sampdoria will seek their first victory of the season in another delicate challenge in the “derby” against Spezia, while Milan will play the super match against Napoli in San Siro.

Inter win in extremis against Torino at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium .  This victory is a boost for the morale of the team after losing their last 2 games last week against AC Milan and in the Champions League to Bayern Munich. Inter reached 12 points. Tough defeat for Torino who sees a draw away one minute from the end of the match. Torino collected a second defeat in the league, and now risk being overtaken by Juventus and Lazio.

Juventus slowed down their sprint race to start climbing the standings ending with a 2-2 draw against Salernitana at the Allianz Stadium.  Referee Marcenato canceled a late goal for Juventus in the 94th minute for offside.  Tough ending because Marcenaro also gave a red card to Juventus Coach Massimiliano Allegri and Arkadiusz Milik in the 96th minute and 3 minutes later to Juan Cuadrado while for Salernitana the red card to Federico Fazio.  In the next round, Juventus will visit Monza while Salernitana will host Lecce.

Empoli defeated by Roma at the Carlo Castellani Stadium. This is an important away victory for Roma grabbing all three points.   Paulo Dybala gave the lead to Roma then the equalizer by Filippo Bandinelli. The winner goal was scored by Tammy Abraham. Sadly, Lorenzo Pellegrini celebrated his 200th appearance with Roma by failing to convert a penalty. Empoli ended with 10 players in the 87th minute with Akpa Akpro getting a red card.  Roma climbed to the 5th position.
