🏆👉 Portugal defeated Uruguay in the FIFA World Cup Group H on Monday 28 November 2022 at the Lusail National Stadium in Lusail, Qatar. Portugal reached 6 points and mathematically qualified to the Round of 16. This is the second meeting at the World Cup between Portugal and Uruguay, with the South Americans having eliminated Portugal in 2018 in Russia. Portugal, after their 3-2 victory against Ghana in the first day, conquered a victory again and continue their adventure in the Round of 16 while Uruguay, after the goalless draw against South Korea, are still looking for first three points.

🇵🇹 Portugal:  Rui Patricio (Roma), Rafael Leão (Milan)

🇺🇾 Uruguay:  Matias Viña (Roma), Mathias Olivera (Napoli), Matias Vecino (Lazio)

Portugal opened the score in the 54th minute. Bruno Fernandes defeated Uruguay goalkeeper Sergio Rochet with a headed shot to the bottom right corner.

Referee Alireza Faghani gave a penalty to Portugal conceded by José Giménez following a handball. In the 93rd minute, Bruno Fernandes converted the penalty with a right-footed shot to the bottom left corner.

✅   Stats before the game. Uruguay have won four of their last five World Cup matches against European internationals (including a 2-1 win over Portugal), but lost to France in the most recent one. Before this series he had won only two of the previous 25 challenges of this type (8D, 15L). Portugal have won just one of their last nine meetings with South American internationals in all competitions (D3 L5), beating Argentina 1-0 in a friendly in November 2014. After a 3-2 win against Ghana, Portugal are looking to win their first two group stage matches for the third time at the World Cup. He has already done so in 1966 and 2006, then reaching the semi-finals in both editions. Uruguay have failed to score in their last two World Cup matches – only once have they failed to score in three consecutive matches of the tournament (between 1986 and 1990). However, the South American national team has won their second group match in each of the last three editions of the tournament. Uruguay have kept clean sheets in each of their last five World Cup group stage matches – no team has ever done so in six consecutive matches in the history of the competition.

🏆👉 Brazil win the FIFA World Cup Group G defeating Switzerland on Monday 28 November 2022 at the Ras Abu Aboud Stadium (Stadium 974) in Doha, Qatar. Brazil are following up on the good victory of the opening match, against Serbia. This victory means access to the Round of 16 of the 2022 World Cup. Switzerland also comes from the success in the debut match, against Cameroon. Yet, they remain with 3 points. Brazil remain unbeaten in 17 matches in the World Cup group stage – no team has ever avoided defeat in 17 consecutive games at this stage.

I must admit the match didn’t see a total dominion and Brazil struggled. However, in the last 10 minutes of the game, Casemiro kicked a spectacular shot out of the hat for goalkeeper Sommer, who decided the match.

  •  Italian Serie A players called up in this game

🇧🇷 Brazil:  Danilo Luiz (Juventus), Alex Sandro (Juventus), Gleyson Bremer (Juventus).

🇨🇭 Switzerland:  Ricardo Rodriguez (Torino), Michel Aebischer (Bologna)

Referee Iván Barton ruled out the goal by Vinícius Júnior in the 64th minute for offside after consulting the VAR.

Brazil opened the score in the 83rd minute. Casemiro defeated Switzerland goalkeeper Yann Sommer with a right-footed shot to the top right corner. The assist is by Rodrygo.

Stats before the game. The previous two matches between Brazil and Switzerland at the World Cup ended in draws (2-2 in 1950 and 1-1 in 2018). Brazil have not faced other national teams more often without ever winning respect against Switzerland (also twice against Portugal and Hungary). Switzerland have won two of their last four meetings against Brazil in all competitions (D1 L1), having never achieved success on their first five occasions (D3 L2). Switzerland have scored exactly one goal in all of their last six games against Brazil. Switzerland have won just one of their eight World Cup meetings against teams from South America (D2 L5), 2-1 against Ecuador in 2014 in Brazil. After a 1-0 draw against Cameroon on matchday one, Switzerland could win their first two games at a World Cup for the first time. Switzerland last won back-to-back competitions in 2006 against Togo and South Korea. Brazil could win back-to-back World Cup matches against European selections for the first time since their six-game streak between 2002 and 2006, following a 2-0 win against Serbia in their opening game. 16 of Brazil’s 18 total World Cup losses have been against European sides.

🏆👉 Lineup BRAZIL (4-2-3-1): Alisson; E. Militao, Marquinhos, Thiago Silva, Alex Sandro; Fred, Casemiro; Raphinha, Paqueta, Vinicius Jr; Richarlison.

🏆👉 Lineup SWITZERLAND (4-3-2-1): Sommer; Widmer, Elvedi, Akanji, Rodriguez; Freuler, Xhaka, Rieder; Sow, Vargas; Embolo.
