Como faced a defeat in the Serie A Week 22 match on Saturday 25 January 2025, held at the Giuseppe Sinigaglia Stadium in Como, Italy.  Atalanta triumphed with a score of 2-1. This win brings Atalanta’s points total to 46, placing them 7 points behind the league leaders, Napoli, who have 53 points. Como, on the other hand, remains at 22 points.

It was an exciting comeback match filled with twists and turns. Como initially took the lead thanks to Nico Paz in the 30th minute.  The second half saw a turnaround as Mateo Retegui scored twice, flipping the score in Atalanta’s favor. Retegui is now the top scorer in Serie A with 16 goals.

Today, the happiest person is Atalanta’s Coach Gian Piero Gasperini, thanks to this fantastic victory! And guess what? His birthday is just around the corner (tomorrow) on January 26th! What a wonderful way to kick off the celebrations!

Stats before the game:

Como has achieved more Serie A victories against Fiorentina (nine) than any other team, with Atalanta coming in second with eight wins. However, when it comes to teams they’ve faced at least ten times, Como has a better success rate against Atalanta, boasting a 42% win rate (8 wins, 6 draws, 5 losses), which is the same record they have against Bologna. Following their 3-2 victory away from home on September 24, Como has the chance to win both league matches against Atalanta this season for only the second time in their history, the first being in the 1949/50 season during their initial double-header.

Como has only lost one of their last nine home matches against Atalanta in Serie A, achieving six victories and two draws during this stretch. The only team they have beaten more often at home in the top flight is Bologna, with seven wins, while they also have six wins against Fiorentina.

Recently, Como has secured three wins in their last six Serie A matches (with one draw and two losses), matching the number of victories they had in their previous 23 top-flight games (eight draws and twelve losses). They have the chance to win two consecutive top-flight matches for the second time this season, having not accomplished this in their last two seasons (1988/89 and 2002/03).
