Seydou Keita believes the signs are good after seeing Roma draw with European giants Real Madrid and Manchester City at the International Champions Cup Australia.
The Malian midfielder feels the Giallorossi have already shown the right mentality and can take heart from their ICC displays as they focus on boosting their fitness levels ahead of the new season.
Keita stopped briefly to chat to asroma.it after the 2-2 draw with Man City at Melbourne Cricket Ground. Here’s what he had to say:
Let’s take stock of things after these two matches in Australia. Roma were unbeaten against Real Madrid and Manchester City – that’s got to be a positive.
“Yes, it is positive. It’s important not to lose but it’s even more important to prepare well for the season because we have a long year ahead of us and teams like Juventus, AC Milan and Inter are going to make things very hard.”
You’re an experienced player. How did the team look to you physically and mentally in these two games?
“Mentally we’re in very good shape. Physically it’s still too early to say. We’re only two weeks into pre-season and those who played international games have only been back for a week. Mentally we’re doing well and there’s plenty of time to get ourselves into physical shape, but not losing to Real or City is definitely a good start.”
