AS Roma announce Opening Day opponents at Olimpico

AS Roma are delighted to announce that reigning Europa League champions Sevilla FC will be the club’s opponents on Opening Day at Stadio Olimpico.

The match, to be played at 20:00 on August 14, will bring to a close an action-packed pre-season schedule that began in Pinzolo with a warm-up game against Hungarian side Gyirmót FC KFT on July 11.

A week later, Roma triumphed on penalties against Real Madrid in front over 80,000 fans at Melbourne Cricket Ground on the opening night of the International Champions Cup Australia before losing 5-4 in a penalty shoot-out against Manchester City after earlier securing a 2-2 draw in normal time.

The club, who secured automatic qualification to this season’s Champions League after finishing second in Serie A, will now travel to Indonesia for the first time and on July 25 will host ‘AS Roma Indonesia Day 2015’ at at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta.
The event will feature an intra-squad exhibition match and initiatives designed to give local fans the chance to experience the club first-hand.
AS Roma will then take on Sporting Clube de Portugal (Sporting Lisbon) at the Estádio José Alvalade on August 1 in the Portuguese club’s annual opening match.

On August 5, Rudi Garcia will test his side against 2014-15 UEFA Champions League winners FC Barcelona at the Nou Camp in the prestigious Gamper Trophy.

Three days later, Roma will return to Spain to take on Valencia CF in the annual Trofeo Naranja showpiece fixture before returning home to face Sevilla FC.

This summer we have had an extended stay in Australia with great training conditions, six matches against world class opponents and our first visit to Indonesia. ‎Overall this program will prepare the‎ team well for the season and bring AS Roma closer to fans around the world.”
