Viola coach Vincenzo Montella held a press conference this lunchtime ahead of his side’s match against Parma.
Things got underway with the inevitable questions about Neto’s decision to leave the club: “You never stop experiencing new things in football. We are bitterly disappointed. But this sort of thing has always happened. I’ll pick the team based on footballing reasons, nothing else. Perhaps it was made official a bit too soon. I’ve got no doubts about Neto’s professionalism, but I’m less convinced about how he’ll react mentally when we play at home.”
Montella was then asked about whether Mutu could do a job for the team: “We’ll look at it, but we need players who can play immediately.”
There were then a few questions about the side in general: “The team is doing well. It’ll be a tough match against Parma as I’m sure the break will have done them the power of good. I’m expecting them to be hungry for the victory.
“In my opinion, Gomez is not leaving under any circumstances. Seeing him scoring for another team would be very painful indeed. In terms of the market in general, we could use a goalkeeper. Diamanti would be an ideal foil to Gomez,” stated Montella.
“Aquilani has recovered well and is training with the rest of the group again. However, Babacar is still unavailable,” explained the Fiorentina boss.
Montella was keen to say a few words about Italian musician Pino Daniele, who died yesterday: “He gave Italy so many wonderful memories. My condolences to his family.”
