Here are the post-match declarations from Venezia Coach Paolo Zanetti and Venezia defender Pietro Ceccaroni after the Serie A Week 33 game: Fiorentina 1 – 0 Venezia on Saturday 16 April 2022 at the Artemio Franchi Stadium in Florence, Italy.

  Fiorentina:  6th position, 56 points

  Venezia:  19th position, 22 points

Venezia Coach Paolo Zanetti:

“We didn’t play a good game, in its entirety. In the first half, we concentrated on covering space, but we created few chances when we had possession. In the second half, the team was more proactive, but we didn’t take advantage of the counter-attacks that Fiorentina conceded; we were sterile.

In all honesty, the technical difference between the two teams was big and expected. The Viola are in excellent form and are preparing for Europe: what we saw on the pitch speaks volumes. The pace of Fiorentina is very high.

Today, having half of the starters out revealed our weaknesses in dribbling and direction. Kiyine and Aramu gave a lot, both in terms of quality and physicality. For our type of team, we concede a lot of set pieces. It’s an aspect that penalizes us, as shown in the last two games, lost on loose balls.

We still believe in salvation. It’s normal to be a bit disappointed after such a negative series of matches, but we have to remain sharp. We have a game to spare and we have a match against Cagliari on the last day of the season. We need confidence and positivity: our youngest players are still showing some fear on the pitch. We lack technique, we lack experience, and, let’s say, we also lack a bit of luck. But let’s continue to put our hearts into every match.

Venezia defender Pietro Ceccaroni:

“Today we gave our everything. We didn’t manage to contain a team as strong as Fiorentina, especially in the first half, while we must work on the positive notes that we can draw from our performance in the second half. It’s not easy to analyze the moment of the team as a whole. Certainly we have to work harder and do better. The attitude must not be of surrender, even in the face of teams theoretically superior to ours.

To be honest, we also lack a bit of luck, but that’s what football is all about. You create luck by working hard and putting in the effort in training and on the pitch.”
