🏆👉 AC Milan ended the Champions League Group Stage – Group F, Matchday 2 with a goalless draw on Wednesday 4 October 2023 at the Signal Iduna Park (Westfalenstadion) in Dortmund, Germany. AC Milan rose to two points in the standings, placing third in Group F, behind Newcastle, first with 4, and PSG, stuck on 3 after the defeat at St. James’ Park. Still no goals scored or conceded in this edition of the Champions League for Pioli’s team. Borussia Dortmund, bottom of the table on 1, wins the first point in their group but has to postpone the goal and victory.
We might say it was a balanced match. Dortmund came closest to taking the lead in the first half, trying repeatedly with Malen, Fullkkrug and Bensebaini, but without being able to find the precision needed to beat Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan.
At the end of the first half, Milan showed off with a couple of accelerations from Rafael Leao, who was also the protagonist at the start of the second half with the assist for Christian Pulisic, whose conclusion was blocked by Kobel. In the 82nd minute, Theo Hernandez also tries with a header, but the Rossoneri’s biggest chance of the match comes four minutes later, when Chuckwueze, alone in front of Kobel, fails to get past him and Reijnders misses the target by centimeters on the rebound.
Borussia Dortmund and Milan returned to face each other for the first time since the second group stage of the 2002/03 Champions League: the away team won both matches 1-0 – the Rossoneri then lifted the trophy that season.

✅ Stats before the game: Milan have lost only two of their 14 Champions League matches against German teams (W7, D5): away from home against Hertha Berlin in October 1999 (0-1) and at the Meazza against Borussia Dortmund in March 2003 (0- 1). Borussia Dortmund lost 0-2 against Paris Saint-Germain in the first match of this Champions League: only in 2017/18 (against Tottenham and Real Madrid) did they lose both of their first two matches in a single season in the tournament. Milan have not scored in their last three Champions League matches, the Rossoneri have never recorded four games in a row without a goal between the Champions League and the European Cup. In the previous five Champions League seasons (between 2018/19 and 2022/23), Borussia Dortmund lost just one of 15 home games in the group stage (W9, D5): 1-3 against Ajax in November 2021. Milan have kept a clean sheet in their last three Champions League group stage matches. The last time he recorded a longer run of clean sheets in a row at this stage of the tournament was in 2002/03 (four).
