RINO GATTUSO: “A moment of decline only normal after years at the top.”

MILAN – Rino Gattuso, speaking on the weekly programme Radio Anch’io Lo Sport on Radio Rai, had this to say about Milan:

“After 25 years or so, a negative moment can happen, the Berlusconi family have invested a lot, they’ve won a lot, but what leaves me a bit perplexed is that I don’t see a plan, it’s all done one day to the next. Milan have spent many years at the top, it might be a period of decline but they need to be clear. Negative seasons can happen, but the important thing is to be clear with the fans.”

On the coach: “It’s normal that when you’re young and they ask you to coach Milan that you can’t say no. But I think it was a hurried move on both sides, a bit like my experience at Palermo. You might have been a great player, but coaching is a different job, it’s very complicated, you need to get practical experience and even if we were top players and won a lot you need experience, you have to move around, stay up to date, be out on the pitch.”

Closing comments: “I know more about football now as a coach but I have to learn a lot more, I’ve chosen a different path because I know that I want to do this job and I know that I have to gain a lot more experience. My next job? I only know that I have to choose well, because I’ve had two and a half troubled years. I hope to find a project because I don’t work anymore for money but for the passion and I hope to find a club that has a project and that allows me to work in peace.”
