26 May, ON THIS DAY: MILAN BIDS FAREWELL TO SACCHI

MILAN – On this day in 1991, Milan played out a goalless draw with Parma on the final day of the Serie A season. The match however will be remembered as Arrigo Sacchi’s last for the rossoneri before taking up the Italian national team job, where he would lead the Azzurri to the 1994 World Cup final in the USA, lost only on penalties to Brazil. Sacchi would be replaced by Fabio Capello and his fellow countryman would maintain the success enjoyed under Sacchi, winning amongst other titles and trophies, the 1994 Champions League final against Barcelona: named as the match of the century by Milan fans.
