The moment that many had been eagerly anticipating—the debut of the “third Maldini” for the Italian national team—finally arrived on Monday, October 14, 2024. Daniel Maldini took to the field in the 74th minute, coming on for Giacomo Raspadori. The celebration was further enriched by the Italian team’s commanding 4-1 victory over Israel in the UEFA Nations League at the Blu Energy Stadium in Udine.
This milestone is historic, as the Maldini family now holds the exceptional honor of having three members—Cesare, Paolo, and Daniel—representing Italy. It was a moment filled with joy.
- 👉 Grandfather, Cesare Maldini debut on January 6, 1960 (Italy 3 – 0 Switzerland in Naples)
- 👉 Father, Paolo Maldini debut at age 19 on March 31, 1988 (Italy 1 – 1 Yugoslavia in Spil)
- 👉 Son, Daniel Maldini debut at age 23 on Monday 14 October 2024 (Italy 4 – 1 Israel).
🇮🇹 Congratulations, Daniel Maldini, on your first match with the Italian National team! We’re incredibly proud to see a third “Maldini” donning the Italian colors.

3 – With Cesare, Paolo and Daniel, Maldini is the first family with three generations of players (grandfather, father and son) in the history of Italy. 22 years and 118 days have passed since Paolo Maldini’s last match with Italy and 61y 1d since Cesare Maldini’s last.
