Atalanta won the Coppa Italia Quarterfinals on Wednesday 10 January 2024 at the San Siro Stadium in Milan, Italy. Atalanta eliminated Milan making a comeback. Atalanta grabbed a spot in the Coppa Italia Semifinals. This is a tough blow for the Rossoneri. In the last second of the game, Jovic scores a header which is deflected with his elbow by Holm: after a VAR check, Di Bello decrees the end of the match, a non-foul touch from Gasperini’s number 3.

The last clash between the two teams dates back to 24 years ago, in 2000, which saw the Rossoneri win 4-2. There are 11 precedents between Diavoli and Dea, with 7 triumphs for Milan, two draws and two victories in favor of the Bergamo team. The Rossoneri gained access to the quarter-finals thanks to a clear 4-1 win over Claudio Ranieri’s Cagliari, while the Bergamo team needed a 3-1 victory against Sassuolo on January 2nd.

AC Milan opened the score in the 45th minute before ending the first half. It is forward Rafael Leão to defeat Atalanta goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi with a right footed shot to the bottom right corner. The assist is by Théo Hernández.

Atalanta equalized just a minute after Milan’s goal. It is Teun Koopmeiners to defeat AC Milan gaolkeeper Mike Maignan with a right footed shot to the bottom left corner. The assist is by Emil Holm.

Atalanta took the lead thanks to the penalty converted by Teun Koopmeiners with a left footed shot to the bottom left corner. The penalty is conceded by Álex Jiménez after a foul on Aleksey Miranchuk.

✅   Stats before the game: After remaining unbeaten in the first seven matches of the Italian Cup, with five wins and two draws in the partial, Milan have lost two of the last four matches (2W) played against Atalanta in the competition, including the most recent, in the match of second leg of the quarter-finals of the 2000/01 edition (the Rossoneri still went through, thanks to an aggregate score of 5-4). Atalanta have never won in the five Italian Cup matches played on the Milan pitch: four defeats, including the last two, and a draw in the period, without ever managing to keep a clean sheet (11 goals conceded in total, for an average of 2.2 per match).Milan have won their last two Serie A home games against Atalanta without conceding a goal, after the Rossoneri had failed to win at the Meazza in any of the previous seven (D4, L3), with five different coaches (Stefano Pioli , Gennaro Gattuso, Vincenzo Montella, Sinisa Mihajlovic and Filippo Inzaghi). Milan have won all of their last four matches played in all competitions at the Meazza (three in Serie A and one in the Italian Cup); the last time in which the Rossoneri achieved more consecutive home wins, again considering all competitions, dates back to the period between April and September 2022 (seven in that case, one of these against the Bergamo team).
