MILAN FOUNDATION IN SARDINIA

A recent initiative in Sardinia, sponsored by the Region of Sardinia, was an opportunity for institutions from the tertiary sector to present publicly some of their social inclusion programs that are in place in the province of Nuoro. Particular attention was paid to the collaboration between the Milan Foundation and the Baronia Verde Social Cooperative, a type B cooperative aimed at helping young people with disabilities. Following the major floods that affected Sardinia during the month of November 2013, the Milan Foundation made a strong commitment to help those people affected by them. The Milan Foundation therefore looked for initiatives capable of responding in a continuous manner to the needs of the land and utilising the local resources. For this reason, the Milan Foundation decided to support the renovation of a greenhouse/lab with the purpose of training activities aimed at helping those who had dropped out of formal education and providing them with a training area but also one for socio-cultural needs, guidance and even employment. For instance, among the activities there is the sale of vegetables, flowers and plants, together with the maintenance of green areas (public and private), with the aim of giving continuity and self-financing the initiative in its entirety. With this project, the Milan Foundation confirms its commitment and interest to the support of all those projects that promote social inclusion, understood as a process of accompanying and supporting developments that lead to an increase in inter-personal relationships, meaningful relationships, involvement in activities that respond to personal wishes and goals. In addition to several local authorities, the Secretary General of the Milan Foundation Rocco Giorgianni was also present.
