The game towards salvation ends with a draw. Spezia fail to win the Serie A Week 26 game at the Alberto Picco Stadium. Spezia 15th in the table ahead of Benevento in 16th. The draw not helping any and both teams remain with same points reaching now 26 points. The relegation zone is still a danger if losing more games.  Highlight of the match is Benevento defender Kamil Glik making his 300th appearance in the five major European leagues. Glik is the fourth Polish player to reach this milestone among footballers who made their debut in the 2000s, after Robert Lewandowski, Lukasz Piszczek and Ludovic Obraniak.

Udinese achieving their objective winning the Serie A Week 26 home game against Sassuolo at the Dacia Arena in Udine.  Sassuolo failing the challenge  to cause an upset and grab this away victory.  Sassuolo is -2 points below Hellas Verona with 38 points in the 8th position.  Sassuolo with a pending game.

Juventus with a sprint race win the Serie A Week 26 game defeating Lazio at the Allianz Stadium in Turin.   Juventus, with a pending game, look to climb the Serie A Standing being now in the 3rd position with 52 points.  Lazio with a rush to get points to be among the top 6 positions.

AC Milan causing an upset and win the Serie A Week 26 game defeating Hellas Verona  at the Marc’Antonio Bentegodi Stadium in Verona.   Hellas Verona succumbing to the pressure failing to win the home game.   This is a precious victory for AC Milan reaching 56 points are only +4 point above Juventus with 52 points in the 3rd position. The two goals by Krunić and Dalot make it 15 different goalscorers for AC Milan in this Serie A season.   The victory with an added boost for the squad ahead of the Europa League Round of 16 game on Thursday against Manchester United.

Inter increasing the gasp reaching 62 points with a +6 points lead over AC Milan in the 2nd position with 56 points.  Inter defeated Atalanta at the Meazza claiming the 3 points.  It’s a precious home victory because the “Scudetto” for the moment seems a bit closer.

AS Roma winning the home game defeating Genoa at the Olimpico di Roma Stadium .  This is an important victory for AS Roma claiming all 3 points and climbing from the 5th to the 4th position with 50 points.  Roma will go back to the 5th position if Atalanta with 49 points defeat Inter. Genoa with 27 points is risking to go down in the relegation zone.  Genoa with +7 points above Torino with 20 points and 2 pending games.

Napoli needed the victory to keep the 6th position and they did it.  This victory gives an added boost for the team winning the Serie A Week 26 against Bologna at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium.  Bologna  losing their 12th game this season.   Napoli reaching 47 points are +4 points above Lazio in the 7th position with 43 points.  Bologna with 28 is only +1 point above Genoa with 27 points in the 13th position.

As for the relegation zone, good news is for Crotone in the 20th position gaining 3 precious points after defeating Torino (18th position).   Crotone with a poker 4-2 sending Torino in despair unable to react.   Crotone winning their 4th game while Torino losing their 10th game and winning only 3.

Fiorentina and Parma ended with a draw sharing 1 point each.  This is not a good result for Fiorentina considering they were playing at the Artemio Franchi Stadium.  Fiorentina with 26 points share same points with Benevento and Spezia.  Simply put, salvation is not achieved… yet.

Sampdoria and Cagliari also with a draw.  Cagliari in the 17th position with 22 points being just +2 points above Torino with 20  points in the 18th position and with 2 pending games.   Cagliari will need to gain more points or will go down to the relegation zone.

This is a big day for Inter increasing the gap in the leadership.  Inter  win the Week 26 game defeating Atalanta on Monday 8 March 2021 at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium in Milan, Italy.   The victory gives Inter a total of 62 points which will be a +6 points lead over AC Milan in the second position with 56 points.   Atalanta also with the sprint race to climb to the top 3 positions.

Inter presenting before the match the MVP Award for the month of February to forward Romelu Lukaku.

Inter opening the score in the 54th minute. It is Milan Skriniar to defeat Atalanta goalkeeper Marco Sportiello with a right footed shot. Atalanta have conceded a Serie A away goal after 413 minutes with the goal by Skriniar. The last one was scored by Roberto Pereyra at the Dacia Arena in January.

  • Stats before the game.  Inter have won only 1 of their last 6 matches against Atalanta in Serie A (4N, 1P), from 2018 onwards only against Roma have they not achieved any success in the league (6N).   After two consecutive home defeats against Atalanta in Serie A, Inter have remained unbeaten in their last 6 games against Atalanta at the Meazza in the league: four wins followed by two draws.  For the fourth time in the era of three points per win, Inter have scored at least 59 points in their first 25 Serie A games – on all three previous occasions they have then won the Scudetto at the end of the season (2006/07, 2007/08, 2008/09).  Inter have won all of their last nine home games in Serie A and have not done better since May 2011, when they reached 13.  The 49 points obtained by Atalanta after the first 25 games of this Serie A represent a record for Atalanta at this point of the season in the top flight – after 26 games they scored 51 points in 2016/17 and 2019/20.
Atalanta have kept a clean sheet in their last three Serie A away games, only twice have they done better away from home in the top flight: in 1997 and 2016 (four in both cases).   Atalanta have scored at least three goals in 12 games: in the five major European leagues no team has done better this season (12 including PSG and Bayern Munich).  Eight assists for Inter’s Romelu Lukaku in this Serie A: record for him in a single season in the top-5 European championships.   Luis Muriel has scored five goals against Inter in Serie A, but none in three matches with Atalanta – since the beginning of 2021 only Inter Milan’s Romelu Lukaku (13: seven goals and six assists) has taken part in more goals than the Colombian in Serie A (12: eight goals and four winning passes).
