HARD WORK ONLY SOLUTION

MILAN – This is what was said in the aftermath of Monday's round 35 Serie A match with Hellas which ended 2-1 in favour of the Veronese outfit:JOSE MAURI"I tried to do everything the coach asked of us such as being quick on the ball. This defeat leaves a very bitter taste. Hellas played long balls forward for Pazzini and the key to winning today was short and quick exchanges of the ball and movement. I tried my best to rally the team. Every match is decisive. Wearing the Milan shirt brings with it responsibility. Our approach has to improve. We are still in sixth place though and we are far from dead and buried. We simply have to keep working harder. We know our limits and we are well aware of our potential. We have been unable to step things up a gear. We have players of quality and with character in this squad. But we have to work on the errors we make. Once you sign for Milan, you know full well what awaits. It’s only normal that there is disappointment right now. We’re not able to give our all. We want to send a strong message to our fans in the next match. It won’t be easy, but we want to pay back our fans and the club."
CRISTIAN BROCCHI (press conference)"Today’s match leaves me feeling angry. I am disappointed with the performance and we have taken a step backwards. With the kind of character that I showed during my playing days, I will try and lead us out of this situation. The only solution I know is hard work. Hellas played with pride today and did everything to make life hard for us today. My players switched off at a certain point in the match and they were no longer able to play as a team. As a result, we were under more pressure and left more spaces and the outcome is there to see. From my point of view, I haven’t had much time available to work, but I am currently the coach of this team and so I take the responsibility for this result. It’s up to me to ensure that my team plays with the character and desire that I am asking for. When a team stops playing as a team and plays as individuals then this naturally works in favour of your opponents, giving them the confidence to go on and create chances. The mental approach is hugely important. At one point, the Hellas players were mentally stronger than us. Those who have been following us closely during the build-up know that the work carried out over the past few days hasn’t allowed me to change much, but that is no excuse. Everyone has their own way of going about things and I have my style. I gave Jose Mauri a chance today to play from the start, but it would be difficult to think about starting Locatelli, Mauri and Calabria, even if I am the first fan of these lads. Abate has played really well recently and so it was only right to stick with him meaning it has been harder for Calabria to have chances to play. At times like this you have to be strong and that is what I am. I have always been attacked and belittled. I have been attacked from a personal standpoint and that is disappointing, but I have a huge desire inside of me to work hard and I will continue to do so in an effort to pass on and instill a strong character into my team. Honda gave a good performance. He was one of the few that battled right until the end. It’s not true that he is the third choice to play in the position behind the two forwards. For the kind of player I have in mind for that role I prefer Bonaventura, but Honda has other qualities that I am a big fan of. I am not thinking about what will happen next season. I have been tasked with giving my all until the end of the season with my ideas and I am trying to get the best out of myself. If the club decide to stick with me then I would be overjoyed. If that doesn’t happen then I will move on and see what happens. I knew this would be a difficult job. I have spoken with Galliani. He knows the full details of what we work on every day at Milanello. We spoke and nothing more. I have always had an excellent relationship with Mihajlovic. I have a lot of respect for him."
