Hello, my friends.  Here is the Serie A Preview Week 38 which is the last of the 2016 – 2017 Season.   Games are on Saturday 27 and Sunday May 28, 2017.  The verdict is out even before ending the season with Juventus winning the Scudetto.   It has been a very interesting season with some upsets including Inter being out of all European competition.  Good news is that Atalanta made it to the Europa League. 

In this Round 38, we will have a direct duel to see who will become the top scorer of the Serie A.  Currently, AS Roma forward Edin Dzeko leads with 28 goals and Napoli forward Dries Mertens with 27 goals.

It’s also a sad day for Italian football fans, especially for Roma fans.  Legendary Captain Francesco Totti is playing his last game with AS Roma today Sunday 28 May ending his glorious years leading the Roman gladiators.

Juventus win the 2016 – 2017 Serie A Scudetto with 88 points after defeating Crotone in Week 37. A historic moment, this is the 6th Consecutive Scudetto.

We have 2 teams already qualifying for the Europa League next season 2017-2018: Lazio and Atalanta. El Shaarawy and Montolivo return as 26 players are called up for Uruguay and Liechtenstein matches

26 players have been called up by Gian Piero Ventura for the friendly with Uruguay on 7th June in Nice and the World Cup Qualifier against Liechtenstein on 11th June in Udine. The squad will gather for 12:00 CEST on Friday 2nd June while the detailed schedule will be published on Monday 29th May.

The AC Milan midfielder Riccardo Montolivo is back after he picked up an injury against Spain on 6th October. Stephan El Shaarawy is also back after he was previously called up for recent training camps. The five Juventus players (Buffon, Bonucci, Chiellini, Barzagli and Marchisio) will join the group on Monday 5th June after the UEFA Champions League final in Cardiff and other players will leave the camp on the same day.

Italy will be playing for the second time in Nice. The Allianz Riviera will see two of the most successful teams in world football meet. Italy can boast of four World Cups, one European Championship while Uruguay have won two World Cups, 15 Copa Americas and two Olympic gold medals.

The Azzurri’s previous fixture in Nice was on 20th August 2008 against Austria at the old Stade du Ray with the match ending in a 2-2 draw. There have been ten meetings with Uruguay with the South Americans ahead in the head-to-head record with four wins, two defeats and four draws. The most recent meeting was on 24th June 2014 in Natal at the World Cup when Italy were eliminated. This will be the fifth meeting on neutral ground after previous encounters in the Netherlands, Mexico and Brazil. Italy have only played the Celeste once in Uruguay which was in Montevideo in January 1981 at the Mundialito.
In the qualifier, it will be the eighth Italy match in Udine where the Azzurri are unbeaten with five wins and two draws. The latest result there was a 1-1 friendly draw with Spain on 24th March. The only previous match against Liechtenstein took place in Vaduz two months ago with Italy winning 4-0.
