AS Roma’s 2015 – 2016 pre-season preparations will include a visit to Spain La Liga team Valencia at the Estadio Mestalla to take part in the 44th edition of the Trofeo Naranja Estrella Damm on August 8. It will be a challenge for AS Roma to win the game. AS Roma previously played in the Trofeo Naranja in 2006 and 2011 losing both games. So, this time, is a must win for the Roman gladiators to conquer the Mestalla!
AS Roma CEO Italo Zanzi says, “We’re honored to take part in the Trofeo Naranja this year. Valencia is a club with great history and we hope it will be an exciting match.”
It’s always a special game to play against Valencia for Captain Francesco Totti. Precisely, Totti scored his first goal for AS Roma at the tender age of 17 in a friendly game on 21 August 1994 just two weeks before Serie A kickoff.
- AS Roma ending the Serie A in the 2nd position last season.
- Valencia finished fourth in La Liga last season, as Portuguese coach Nuno Espirito Santo steered them into a Champions League play-off berth in his debut campaign.
- AS Roma will play against Valencia for the 12th time including in friendlies with stats showing five wins AS Roma, Valencia 5 wins, and one draw.
- AS Roma winning only once at the Mestalla Stadium back in the 2002-2003 Champions League Group Stage ending with Valencia 0 – 3 AS Roma with iconic Captain Francesco Totti scoring 2 goals. Coach at that time was Fabio Capello.
