The race for the Scudetto is almost tight... There are still 4 points difference between Inter and AC Milan following closely by AS Roma having 51 points. Yet, the battle this week is also for the 4th position with Napoli and Juventus trying to catch up Palermo holding "alone" the fourth position which is the area of the Champions League. Here is my PREVIEW of the Italian Serie A Week 27 - Twenty Seventh Round scheduled on Friday, May 6 and Saturday, May 7, 2010.

Usually, Fiorentina is among the top 6 teams and if they want to be in the Champions League next season, they better hurry up and start winning to climb to the top 4 teams.
Next week Juventus playing the Europa League match against Fulham and then in the Serie A against Napoli. Victory is important for both because next week is the Champions League and the Europa league. Fiorentina playing against Bayern Munich on March 9 while Juventus playing against Fulham on March 11.

Testing the waters... Juve aware about their "falling from grace," did a testing match on Wednesday with a mix of the first team and youth players. Vincenzo Iaquinta and Christian Poulsen who on their first real test following their injuries, played for more then an hour!

Either Milan keep the second position and following closely Inter or Roma snatching the second position from Milan. There are only 3 points difference between Roma and Milan. A victory of the Roman gladiators will bring them to 54 points... Yet... Milan would keep the second position because goal difference right now is 20 for Milan and 16 for Roma... unless Roma defeat Milan with more than 4 goals to zero....
Stats are in favor of AC MILAN. Out of the 147 total match between AS Roma - AC Milan in the championship, 68 victories Milan, 36 victories AS Roma, and 43 draws. Now, stats from the games played at the Olimpico, AC Milan still with a small advantage, 74 games in the Olimpico, 26 victories AC Milan, 22 victories AS Roma, and 26 draws.
Good news are from both teams. Roma recovering forward Luca Toni while Milan seeing the awakening from Ronaldinho and Klaas Jan Huntelaar, who by the way even scored a goal yesterday with the Netherlands National Football team. Not sure yet on whether forward Alexandre Pato will be ready for this match for injury.
Naturally, Roma and Milan would be hoping for Genoa to defeat Inter to shorten the gap. Mamma mia... if Milan defeats Roma and Genoa defeats Inter, the difference will be only 1 point.
Top scorer for AS Roma this season so far is Francesco Totti with 10 goals compared to AC Milan top scorer this season with Pato scoring 12 goals, both most likely will miss this match for injuries.
Here is the thing guys, Milan with the difficulty, pressure not only to defeat Roma, but also not suffering more injuries. Next week Milan playing the Champions League game at Old Trafford against Manchester United and they have to win or be eliminated because Man U defeated the rossoneri in San Siro... so pressure is tougher for not losing in both front.
Roma squad might be a bit tired with all Roma players returning from duty with their national teams. A total of 7 players have been called up. Brazil is the national team with most called-up players by Roma: Baptista, Doni and Juan, but also Daniele De Rossi (Italy), Mirko Vucinic (Montenegro), Nicolas Burdisso (Argentina) and John Arne Risse (Norway).
From Milan, in a sense the squad won't suffer much tiredness. Ronaldinho ignored by Dunga. Plus Inzaghi showing great form. Returning from Duty are David Beckham (England), Andrea Pirlo, Marco Borriello, and Gennaro Gattuso (Italy), Klaas Jan Huntelaar (Netherlands), Thiago Silva (Brazil).
